No, Staying At A Resort Doesn’t Count As Traveling

Tourism is a hell of a thing to think about.

Countries use their natural beauty, architecture, culture, food, people, etc. to attract large swaths of people to visit every year.

The Philippines, for instance, uses their stunning beaches to attract a little over six million tourists per year.

Past the stunning beaches, mountains, and marine wildlife, there’s not much else that plays a part in the Philippines tourism industry.

Architecture doesn’t. Their food is fantastic, but it’s not like French food. Their culture and people, to me, are among their strongest weapons, but nobody seems to pay much attention to that.

When someone says they’re going to visit the Philippines, you can bet it’s because they saw Palawan (pictured left) in some magazine and wanted to see it for themselves.

It’s not because they heard Filipinos were some of the coolest people on the planet.

This is what tourism is. A bunch of countries climbing on top of one another shouting from the top of their lungs “HEY, COME VISIT ME. WE HAVE X AND Y AND Z!”
