Max I think following good publications might fix this problem. Great comment and analysis by the way. Let me explain what I think may be happening here.. New readers come to Medium all the time and some of those readers are wannabe writers. So everytime somebody writes the same old "how I made $___ on medium this month" article, there's always a new market for it because new readers are constantly discovering this place. But over time the folks who have been here for a while get annoyed by that content and don't want to read it anymore.

For me, this is where following good publications come in. Normally the editors of good pubs don't publish the same garbage over and over again. We try to constantly source different ideas and not give our audiences the same thing twice. For me, the way to fix this problem actually is to elevate publications, not necessarily writers, because publication owners will do the curating and not the Medium algorithm. That's how this gets solved in part imo.
