I think there's two problems here, too.

1. The one you just mentioned. Medium not recommending great content to you.

2. The content you want recommended simply does not exist on Medium, perhaps.

There's little to no cooking recipes on Medium, for instance. There's little to no movie reviews about popular films. Medium needs to widen it's gaze exponentially.
