I disagree, but an easy fix for this would be to just give stories published by publications more value in the algorithm. The more followers a pub has, the more juice a story gets. The more reads a story has, the more juice it gets. The more followers the author has, the more juice it gets. I've been on Medium since 2016. They didn't have curation for three years while I was first here and Medium was fantastic then. It was the golden age of the platform and it was all regulated by publications--naturally integrated "curators" with diverse interests. Medium went halfway with their latest idea. They let pub owners nominate stories for boost and then an internal team selects the nominated stories. I just feel like the internal team is completely unnecessary.
