How ‘TSIMTSUM’ Explains Life Of Pi’s Ending

In early 2013, I was losing my faith in God.

Born and raised Christian, I went to a Christian college and started seeing how hypocritical the students and faculty could be.

Lost, I remember deciding to watch all the Best Picture nominees before the 2013 Oscars. Movies like Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln, Argo, Les Misérables, and Django Unchained.

The final movie I watched was Life of Pi, and this little two hour movie taught me more about religion than a lifetime of going to church.

It was by far my favorite movie of the bunch, and became one of my favorite movies of all time. I love it so much I have it’s poster in my movie room at home.

Despite my doubts, I’ve never identified as an outright Atheist, and it’s because of this movie.

Perhaps the best way to summarize Life Of Pi is with a clip from famous Christian minister Ravi Zacharias. One time he had a woman ask him about what was with the West’s obsession with coherence and meaning and needing to have things make sense all the time.
