Hey Lisa! I definitely don't want to refer to readers as fat that needs to be trimmed here.

I guess what I mean is that as readers find and choose which writers they want to read, a portion of writers that benefitted heavily from Medium recommending their articles and "propping them up" will probably leave.

It will take some time for the attention to go back to where it's supposed to go--to the better writers that the market decides are worth following--and there will be pain involved in that for writers who got propped up too much in the past by recommend filters.

Tony kind of reminds me of a libertarian in that he wants Medium to be more hands off with what it recommends to us. He wants to allow us, the readers, to choose what we want to read. He doesn't want to meddle with what the market wants, and I applaud the hell out of that.
