Bonnie, I have so much to write to this. First, thank you for mentioning me. You know, this is such a big problem so many creators face.. how do you keep the audience coming back for more? Many times trying to keep them coming back for more can clash with a desire to reach the masses. And when you try to reach the masses too much, it can become obvious you’re trying to reach the masses too much, which can turn people off really quick.
Because you become predictable and keep doing the same things to get views. Being driven by views can be good and bad, but to keep a relationship with your “day 1 audience,” you sort of need to sacrifice views sometimes in order to try something else out. I think Niklas Göke is really good at experimenting.
I love Medium because I write here for pleasure. A lot of people use this platform to make money and I respect the hell out of them and they can continue to write to get clicks, but there’s something to be sacrificed there. And I’m sacrificing something, too. I sacrifice views to try and write about whatever I want to write about.
It’s whatever the writers fancy. I don’t get as many views as I used to on new articles, but that doesn’t mean much to me.
What a weird game this is.
Thank you for mentioning me. I think this is a very, very real aspect to writing/being an influencer of any sort and it needs to be talked about more.
