America Has A Problem. We Have Too Many Assholes.
A year ago I had a horrific conversation with someone on Facebook.
I forget what sparked the arguing, but I remember WHAT we argued about..
How to deal with people we disagree with.
You see, I stupidly thought that we should treat those we disagree with with some form of respect.
Even if that person believes some truly horrific shit.
Why? Because only by treating them with respect can we eventually win them to our side.
That’s the whole point, right?
To change minds, change hearts, and make the world a better place?
The person I argued with wasn’t having it. They made the point that it’s not the job of the oppressed to educate the oppressor — a fair point to make in my estimation.
In a perfect world, the oppressed wouldn’t have to educate the oppressor — we don’t live in a perfect world, though.
Furthermore, the longer I engaged with this person, the more interested they seemed in berating those they disagreed instead of inciting change.
And I wanted to talk about that.
Did I think this person was a bad human being?
