Here’s who I am and what I’m working on in 2021. Follow Nik while you’re at it, too. 😃
I’m a traveler, blogger, vlogger, and online course creator. Here are my social media handles.
When I write I normally focus on millennial personal development, politics, creativity…
2021’s been a bad year for Medium.
More specifically, it’s been a tough summer.
As I’ve written about before on MANY occasions, Medium is still a worthwhile platform to publish on.
It’s just that, for whatever reason, reach has seriously dwindled.
To be clear, reach could plunge down to 75% less of what it currently is and I’d still be publishing here.
I still get a lot of value from this platform.
If I had a regular job and saw Medium as a side-hustle, I’d see no reason to take my content somewhere else.
However the health of my entire…
“I have a girlfriend.”
Saying those words to my parents felt worse than vomiting.
Well, because I broke up with a long-term girlfriend just seven months prior.
Now I was on to somebody else, and I’m sure they had thoughts like ‘Here we go again.’
You see, I care a lot about what my parents think of me.
Even though it felt weird to tell them about my new girlfriend, I also, weirdly, didn’t much care about their reaction.
It’s not because I didn’t care about them.
It’s because I know that people are flawed.
People aren’t always…
Four years ago when Medium created the “Partner Program” for writers, the entire game changed.
I don’t think we know just how groundbreaking it was.
People could now get paid, directly, for writing words on the internet.
Before Medium’s Partner Program, the only way for writers to get paid for their words was if somebody paid them. Hello freelancing!
Now Joe Blow could talk about his divorce and get paid (possibly) thousands of dollars for it.
The Partner Program started off slow. Nobody was making big bucks until a year after it rolled out. …
I’ve written 1,000 blog posts online.
I’ve probably posted close to 1,000 things on LinkedIn, too.
I’ve made hundreds of videos, and a few of them got 1,000,000+ views.
There is an art to going viral online, but sadly many writers don’t know how to paint with all the colors of the viral palette.
Viral articles or videos typically have two ingredients:
If going viral is your goal, then you need to do three things.
Nearly 5 years ago, I started the Post-Grad Survival Guide here on Medium.
I won’t bore you with the details of the next five years.
TLDR: We grew a lot thanks to the help of the undisputed Best Editor on Medium — Stephen Moore.
He was a total boss at helping me run this publication. He helped us expand into new topics. We talked about personal finance more. We talked about side hustles. We published work from some of the best names on Medium.
‘The last page,’ I thought.
It’s always a magical moment when you open a journal for the last time to write the final page.
You prop your journal up and let the pages roll off your thumb from back to front.
All that ink blurring past you. All those memories you worked so hard to get laughing as you realize how fast time is going.
When your thumb reaches the end you grasp that fat stack of pages once again, place them to the left, and prepare yourself for a final entry.
First you fold a nice crease on that…
My fingers hovered over the trackpad.
I was about to digitally sign the lease for my very first apartment.
One year. No backing out.
World traveler Tom was about to sign his life away and — GASP — stay in one place for a while.
This decision scared me, honestly.
Questions flooded my head, like:
Friends, I’ve realized one thing about doubts like these..
These are the doubts of a child. These are the doubts…
“You havvva stone.”
‘F*ck,’ I thought.
I felt as if I just got diagnosed with cancer.
I had a kidney stone. My Doctor, in broken English, told me I “havvva” stone in my kidney that was about 1 cm in diameter.
I knew what kidney stones entail — especially when they’re that big.
Surgery. They require surgery.
It’s not cheap, either, and there’s some pain involved — not just the pain you’re feeling in the moment.
Right then and there, I realized I made a huge mistake the past few years..
I didn’t take care of my body. I didn’t…
Let’s discuss how to write for Medium. My goal is to give you a fast guide that’ll get you from 0–60 in five minutes.
Along with how to write for Medium, here’s a few other things we’ll cover in this article:
The first step is to answer the question of how to create a Medium account.
We got to start there.
