1 Big Reason You Shouldn’t Leave Medium Right Now

A lot of people tell me they’re quitting Medium to go to Substack.

While that’s totally fine to do, I’m still not quite sold on Substack as a viable option to replace Medium.

You grow at a snail’s pace, there’s little to no discoverability, and good luck with making more than $30 per month there from subscriptions.

Listen. I like Substack, but it’s not a power-house grow-your-following-like-a-weed platform that Medium is. It’s basically Convertkit or Mailchimp. It’s not really a platform for writers to find a new audience on.

Maybe you want to go to Twitter.

But Twitter, at least right now, isn’t that fun to write long-form content on. It doesn’t have the vast rolling white spaces of Medium.

You gotta sit there and thread shit out — not to mention the amount of comments you get can be overwhelming and responding to them can take up your entire day.

I’m not saying it’s a bad platform — I think it’s actually really great — but long form writers will have to change a LOT to create effectively there.

What about LinkedIn?

I love LinkedIn and have championed it for years now — but it’s still not 100% the same thing as Medium, right?
